Last November 2010, I was diagnosed with a malignant melanoma tumor measuring .88 cm in depth. After a few days of being in shock, I went heads down in my own research. What I’m about to share with you may literally save your life, as I’m counting on it to save mine. I guess you could say, I’m fully vested.
Ever since growing up on a farm in Iowa, I’ve been told, “Drink your milk for healthy bones and eat your meat for strong muscles.” The problem is both dairy and most animal meat come with considerable risk. Animal products contain animal fat, chloresterol and toxins from growth hormones designed to speed up the production cycle.
According to the American Medical Association (AMA) one out of every two adult American’s will die of heart disease and one of three will die of cancer. According to 25 years of research performed by the Cleveland Clinic, heart disease is preventable and reversible through a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, nuts and grains. It has also been reported that the leading cancers: colon and breast can be prevented, stalled and possibly reversed through proper nutrition. How is this possible? What I’m learning is that the standard Amercian diet we were taught in school is literally killing us.
Why would the USDA and the FDA allow Big Dairy and the Beef Industry to continue to represent 50% of the four basic food groups and through the local school system to boot? It’s absolutely crazy and socially irresponsible. The data is overwhelmingly clear and irrefutable! So what’s the answer and how can we take practical steps today to ourselves and family?
The Solution:
1. Begin eating a plant strong diet
> 85% vegetable and fruit. Raw is best, because when you heat natural foods over 115 degrees it kills the enzymes, which aid in the digestion process and unlocks the nutrition our body needs.
2. In place of chicken, pork and beef
Eat beans (up to 25 varieties available), quinoa, nuts & wild salmon. Only eat high risk meats for special celebrations 2-3x’s monthly.
3. Avoid all dairy, refined sugar products, refined white flour, caffeine, alcohol.
- 1 glass of red wine daily is ok.
- Almond milk and soy products are decent alternatives
- Eat only multi-grain breads or sprouted grain breads.
4. Begin each day juicing/blending organic veggies
- My favorite 5-large carrots, 1 cucumber, 4-stalks celery, 5-collard greens or kale.
- Drink at least 12 oz. (You won’t miss your coffee from all the energy you’ll feel)
5. Buy a Vitamix power blender
Make delicious whole food (no preservatives/additives), naturally sweetened smoothies/deserts, soups, etc.
- My favorite is spinach sorbet: 1/2 lime with skin on, two handfulls of spinach, 5 peppermint leaves, two cups of ice, 1 oz of white grape juice concentrate.
- Machine comes with 100’s of great recipe’s organized in a three ring binder.
I challenge you to join me in eating to live. The rewards are immediate and last a life time. And remember this quote for motivation: “Live Long By Going Plant Strong!”
